Will one of Atalanta’s goalkeepers miss the World Cup games due to facial surgery?

Italian Atalanta and at the same time Argentina National football squad goalkeeper Juan Musso has undergone successful surgery to install metal plates and screws, stabilizing the facial fracture he sustained in a head-on collision with a teammate.

The incident occurred in the opening minutes of Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Series A rivals at the Stadio Olimpico. Running off his line, he collided badly with teammate Merih Demiral, suffering a fractured cheekbone as a result.

The players, however, enjoyed a Monday off following their victory over Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. On Tuesday, September 20, football training is likely to continue at the Centro Bortolotti in Zingonia with a session in the late afternoon.

Musso underwent surgery to stabilize the compression fracture that injured his cheekbone, orbital bone and right jaw after spending the previous night in hospital to be monitored.

The procedure, performed at the Villa Stuart Clinic in Rome by Prof. Bruno Andrea Pesucci and Dr. Vincenzo Marcelli, was a complete success. Musso also had to postpone his international commitments due to the country’s upcoming friendlies with Honduras and Jamaica.

It is not known at the moment if this’ll prevent him from participating in the November 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Musso’s participation with Argentina in the 2022 Tournament is in jeopardy as he is expected to be out during around two months. He probably won’t return to Serie A until 2023.

Musso is a reliable member of the Argentina squad, although he is not the first choice of the National Team.

Let’s take a look at the country’s squad.

Only Brazil (229) and Germany have scored more FIFA World Cup goals than the country, with 137 goals in total (226).

The squad’s manager is Lionel Scaloni.

Argentina national squad’s coach for the 2022 World Cup

Since 2018, Lionel Scaloni has managed the country’s national football team. He replaced Jorge Sampaoli, who was 42 years old. Scaloni won the Spanish league once during his playing career and finished second twice. His team was where he enjoyed his greatest triumph. He led the group that included Lionel Messi, the 2021 Copa América football champion.

Summing it up

Considering that Italian club’s football player Juan Musso was injured, it questions not only his participation in italian matches, but he is also likely to miss out the World Cup, which may have consequences for the squad.
